The Legend of Wine ( listen )
How beautiful it must have been back then in the “Lost Valley”, located behind the Matterhorn, the “Hooru”.
Long before the first tourists ventured to Monte Rosa, hunters from Zermatt passed by these lonely places. Some of them said that they had seen a large, green valley in the middle of the glacier - a real paradise! God had taken this valley under his special protection and protected it from evil spirits, so that this area would never be covered with eternal snow.
The golden rays of sun danced on the grapes of the vines and bathed the cherries, apples and plums on their trees in a paradisiacal light. The most beautiful flowers bloomed in the meadows and the chamois frolicked wildly in the fresh grass. Marmots came out of their burrows and whistled happily, hares and foxes played with their cones under thousand-year-old stone pines, and there were plenty of other animals in this area too.
Everyone lived in the most beautiful peace. Alpine roses, gentian and lobelia gave off a beguiling scent that spread throughout this place where no one had been for a long time. But cursed be the hunter who one day dared to disturb this silence, this peace, with a shot from his hunting rifle. He paid for it with his life. But since then nothing has been as it once was. According to legend, this "lost valley", this paradise, only appears every seven years and only to those who are truly free of sin. But the delicious juice that is extracted from the vines of this paradise can be enjoyed year after year in our wine cellar.
